Winnipeg from on high

Today is the last “official” day of my vacation. I still have the weekend, but on Monday it’s back to the grind. To say I’m languishing in laziness would not be an understatement. So for today’s image I took the easy route. I went to the 10,000 miles well and pulled up another favorite shot from the Fall 2010 trip.

Winnipeg from on high

Though we were only there for a short time, we really liked the Winnipeg vibe. Oh, and the yellow train engine you see is the front end of Via Rail’s “Canadian.” An hour after this shot was taken we were back on board heading towards Vancouver.

Quebec City mix

It’s Friday and I’m beat, so anything goes…. Here’s a shot I took during our 10,000 Mile trip of a mixed modern/old view of Quebec City. The structure with the aged copper roof is the Service Canada which is just across the street from the Gare du Palais (a VERY nice train station where we whiled away quite a few hours).

There’s very little processing on the image, though I did crop a bit to tighten the frame.

Adventure with the Golden Boy

Happy New Year!

On our way back west during the Canadian train trip we had a several hour layover in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Winnipeg is a lovely city and the Manitoba Legislative Building is a must see if you’re ever there. Perched atop the structure is the Golden Boy. Unfortunately, the G11 zoom doesn’t have the reach to get up close and personal with the impressive statue, so I had to settle for jaunty shots of the edifice. I like this one.

It has the look of an HDR image, but this is a single shot straight out of the camera with black and white tweaking done in Nik Silver Efex Pro.
