Besides being a photographer, I'm also the guitarist with the rowdy folk fusion group, The Mad Maggies. I was programmer/web developer for Communication Arts magazine for 15 years before going rogue. I moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to Montréal, Québec in 2013. In 2023, I relocated to Penticton, BC -- better weather.

Old and new by the river

I’m rethinking this blog and that’s why I’m posting less. But I’m still taking pictures and experimenting with post processing techniques. These two shots, taken at First Street in Petaluma during a late afternoon, are treated with a tweaked to my own taste “300 Look” preset from Matt at Lightroom Killer Tips.

Homage to my old boots

We completely cleaned out our garage a couple of weeks ago to make space for a video shoot of our band. Tucked away amidst the years of accumulated clutter were my old Santa Rosa Brand work/hiking boots. I’m pretty sure I bought them in the very early 80s, and I obviously put a whole lot of miles on them before they were retired to the garage. Now, they just look cool.

I couldn’t resist a little pastoral treatment for the old waffle stompers.

Amaryllis on Mother’s Day

The control wheel has gotten flaky on my “old” trusty Canon G11. I’m pretty sure this video shows the simplest, and definitely the cheapest, fix. But anyway… Yesterday, while I was trying to find a solution for the wheel problem, I had the camera out so I took it outside and grabbed a few shots of our red amaryllis. I metered for a “high key” look for these first two shots.

And because the G11 does great macro, I had to get in close.
