The weekend and holiday shots.

Friday night music

Last night we went out to see a friend’s band play some of their original material in a kind of theatrical setting. I brought my G11 along and took quite a few shots. I knew when I looked at the LCD screen after taking this shot that it was going to be a blog post. Sometimes you just know. The story is that the Hammond organ player is laying back while the sax player takes a solo.

Black and white and red

It’s Labor Day, and I’ve got a bit of a stomach malady. Nothing serious, but barbecuing isn’t going to happen here at the homestead. Neither do I feel motivated to pull out the camera. So I decided to pull up an older shot and do some Photoshop play. The image was first converted to black and white using the Nik Silver Efex Pro (version 1) plugin, then I selected all the reds from the original image layer, copied and pasted them them into their own layer. I merged the reds with the black and white layer, did a little fine tuning, et voilà:

Manhole cover

After a gig in San Francisco back in July, I took some night shots of the street scene. A streetlight lit PG&E manhole cover on the street just outside the venue entrance caught my eye. I framed the shot tightly because the pavement around the cover’s edges was very grungy. The image looks kind of Mayan Modern.
