Back alley walls

Sometimes the alley side of a picturesque town is not so “picturesque.” Still, alleys can be quite interesting from a photographic point of view–especially in terms of contrast. And what better for emphasizing contrast than black and white.

Winter dandelion

Taking a cue from Andrew S. Gibson’s excellent 3 eBook series, “The Magic of Black and White,” combined with inspiration from Stuart Sipahigil’s eBook, “Close to Home,” I spied this lone winter dandelion out in my backyard and grabbed some macro shots. I like this vertical image the best.

California sunset

Since the first of the year I’ve been working on a gnarly set of puzzles at work. Most days, by the time I get in the car for the long drive home, my mind is all but spent. Needless to say, stopping for photo ops hasn’t been on the top of my list. Once home, after chilling out a bit, I’ll usually get the “urge.” Yesterday we had a beautiful sunset so I pulled out the G11 and snapped a few shots from the street in front of my house. This is my fave.

Workers on a break

During my photo walk around town on Sunday afternoon I happened on these two guys hanging out in the alley taking a work break. I asked them if I could take their picture and they gave me the OK. They both have great faces so I was tempted to zoom in and grab some portraits, but not wanting to bug them I took just this one.
