Prime time
For my birthday fun today (actually yesterday because it’s the wee hours now) I left the zoom at home and headed downtown (walking with Mags) to shoot some photos with only a prime attached to my camera. The lens of choice was the Canon 40mm f/2.8 pancake–aka, the “Shorty Forty.” I’ve already posted some shots of my focus/bokeh tests with the lens, but this is the first time I’ve used it away from the homestead. It was a fun exercise, and besides being ridiculously low profile and lightweight, the lens focuses quickly and is very sharp. No doubt, I’ll be using the 40mm more often.

Harley chrome
I saw this Harley-Davidson parked on the main boulevard in downtown Petaluma. There was a lot of distracting stuff near it so I took several close-up shots. This one popped when I converted it to monochrome in Nik Silver Efex Pro.

Barbecuing chicken
Here’s another shot from this past weekend’s Cotati Accordion Festival. I grabbed the shot because I liked the light on the cook. No doubt, the stream of people queueing up behind him had something completely different on their minds.

Accordions ROCK!
We spent this past weekend playing music, selling swag and partying down at the 22nd annual Cotati Accordion Festival. On Saturday, I spent a lot of time wandering the festival grounds with my camera. I’m just now culling through the hundreds of photos I took. This one was taken fairly early in the day, and though not indicative of the energy and craziness of the festival, the image presents a back story of its own.
