Out and about for dinner

OK, so I’m on a faux HDR kick. No doubt it won’t be long before I’ll dial back it back, but for now I’m having fun tweaking with abandon. Interestingly, not all images lend themselves to this kind of heavy processing–especially when going for a “painterly” look. This one, taken this past weekend while out for Mexican food, took the process quite nicely.

For fun here’s the original JPEG image as captured in camera (the image above was made from the RAW file with most of the processing done in Lightroom 4):

New band photo

Today I did a photo shoot on my patio with the band. For lighting I used a single speedlite (Canon 430ex II) and a shoot thru umbrella. The backdrop was a $10 plastic tarp. This was the money shot (if you look closely you can see the shutter trigger in my right hand).

Here’s a cleaned up version sans the faux HDR treatment and cheap backdrop (better for the one sheet):

An artist and his van

I made a food run on Friday but the taco truck was a no show. Figuring they were just late, I decided to pass some time wandering around taking photos. I saw this art van as a photo opportunity. A few shots in and the owner pops out of the adjacent warehouse. “Mind if I take some photos of the van?” I asked. “Not a problem,” he replied, “but don’t forget the artist.” I complied.

Hyperreal in St Paul

I was out and about this past weekend gigging with the band at the “Thinking Outside the Squeezebox II Festival” in St Paul, Minnesota. Between sets, I had a lot of time to take photos. Here are a few talent shots that worked well with faux HDR processing in Lightroom and Photoshop.
