Downtown on a Monday afternoon

Instead of heading directly home after getting off the freeway at the end of my commute, I headed into town. The local parking garage seemed like a good place to grab a few quick shots so I drove up to the top level, parked and circumnavigated the lot. This view is looking east down Western Avenue towards the Petaluma River.

Changing the weather

While waiting for the seasonal change from the month long Indian Summer we’re having in the SF Bay Area, I decided to change the appearance of the weather myself. The fog was indeed rolling in at the Golden Gate, but it was in contrast to a bright blue sky. I converted the image to black and white in Nik Silver Efex Pro, first tweaking the contrast and structure. I then added a white vignette to give the shot a vintage look as well as enhance the “weather effect” of the swirling fog.

Gull on a pier rail

I took this shot yesterday during my short stop at the Fort Baker fishing pier. The gull was keeping a vigilant eye on a noisy juvenile gull perched on the rail on the opposite side of the pier, but for a moment it looked my way long enough for me to grab this shot.

I’m also posting the color image because I can’t decide which version I prefer.
