It’s a rainy day here in the Bay Area, so for photo fun I went to the patio and worked up an Orton “movement effect” image. It took a few shots to get a look I liked, but this one is a keeper.

I took this shot a month ago, though today the view probably would have looked more or less the same. Indian Summer has lasted longer this year than any mid-Autumn I can remember. But, the weather is about to change. Tomorrow it’s going to rain. Saturday will be the first frosty morning in the inland valleys. Summer is almost over.

While waiting for the seasonal change from the month long Indian Summer we’re having in the SF Bay Area, I decided to change the appearance of the weather myself. The fog was indeed rolling in at the Golden Gate, but it was in contrast to a bright blue sky. I converted the image to black and white in Nik Silver Efex Pro, first tweaking the contrast and structure. I then added a white vignette to give the shot a vintage look as well as enhance the “weather effect” of the swirling fog.

I took this shot of bamboo leaves against the sky out in our backyard. I liked the colors of the original image, but I got to tweaking it in Silver Efex Pro (version 1) and ended up liking the monochrome simplicity of this faux “tintype” rendering better.

This twilight shot of the south side of the turn basin at the end of the Petaluma River was taken earlier this month–two weeks ago actually because there’s a new moon tonight.
