Orton abstract

Today while I was downloading IOS5 for my iPhone (took forever!), I went out in the yard to practice the Orton “movement technique.” I learned about the technique–carefully and deliberately moving the camera while the shutter is open–after listening to Michael Orton on the current Photography.ca blog podcast. This image of the underside of our rosebushes is a first attempt and was the 14th shot (out of 20) I took during the shoot. It’s definitely tricky to get a good image.

Tomales boat shack

I’ve gotten lazy–three images in a row from the same shoot and a day skipped. Actually, it’s a busy work week and the band has a big event coming up the weekend so I don’t have much time for taking photographs. I know, it’s a kind of lame excuse, but hey, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Late afternoon on the coast

I took this shot at the north end of Tomales Bay about 10 minutes before and about 1/2 mile south from where I took the shot for yesterday’s post. The group of trees in the distance are the same as those in the previous post’s image. The ambient light hadn’t changed much during the time between taking the shots, but this one is angled 90 degrees away from rather than directly towards the sun. It’s less dramatic, but I like it nonetheless.

Moody on the coast

I got agitated late this afternoon so I loaded my camera gear into the car and took a drive out to the coast. I stopped a few times to take shots. Of the batch I took, this one best represented my mood–but don’t ask me why.

Two shots today

During today’s commute home, I did “quick” pullout just before the toll plaza at the Golden Gate Bridge. Because of the dynamic look of the clouds I really wanted to get close to the bridge, but, unfortunately, that wasn’t going to happen. It took me ten minutes to get out of the one way, jammed full plaza parking lot. These shots were taken down the road towards Crissy Field where there was abundant parking space and very few tourists.
