Late summer looking up

I’ve been doing a fair amount of sky gazing during my vacation at the homestead–mostly while enjoying few beers out on the patio. The cirrus clouds that passed overhead during the mid-afternoon yesterday inspired me to pull out my T2i and start looking for upward angled compositions. Yesterday’s post was pairing the clouds with the patio umbrella. Today’s photo (also taken yesterday) mixes the clouds with the clothes line and a Chinese Pistache tree.

Vacation view at f/22

I’m feeling 100% better so I’ve spent most of the day… practicing guitar. I did grab a few moments of quality time with my T2i while some cool summer cloud formations were passing overhead. This is the first photo I’ve published that was shot at f/22. In fact, today was the first day I took shots at f/22. And I forgot to check the ISO (vacation brain is lazy), so I was shooting at f/22, ISO 100 without a tripod. The trick: don’t breathe! 😉

Black and white and red

It’s Labor Day, and I’ve got a bit of a stomach malady. Nothing serious, but barbecuing isn’t going to happen here at the homestead. Neither do I feel motivated to pull out the camera. So I decided to pull up an older shot and do some Photoshop play. The image was first converted to black and white using the Nik Silver Efex Pro (version 1) plugin, then I selected all the reds from the original image layer, copied and pasted them them into their own layer. I merged the reds with the black and white layer, did a little fine tuning, et voilĂ :

Late summer rose

I’m on vacation and have no plans to travel. In fact, except for a few band gigs, I’m doing my best to stay out of the car–i.e., no commuting! So today, while chilling at the homestead, I decided to play around with a couple of different lenses. This image, shot with my 85mm prime, got the nod.
