Stream of fog

I’m uninspired to shoot during my commute these days, not because I don’t want to but because the weather has been so perfectly dull. Clear, but hazy skies and/or high fog on virtually windless days for two weeks. So, for today’s photo, I went back to that weird, wispy fog day at the Golden Gate Bridge last month and pulled up this image of a fog stream.

Two shots today

During today’s commute home, I did “quick” pullout just before the toll plaza at the Golden Gate Bridge. Because of the dynamic look of the clouds I really wanted to get close to the bridge, but, unfortunately, that wasn’t going to happen. It took me ten minutes to get out of the one way, jammed full plaza parking lot. These shots were taken down the road towards Crissy Field where there was abundant parking space and very few tourists.

A view through the cables

It was a rainy commute home today. The beginning of October is a bit early, but the rain is nice because it’s been very dry for many months. I didn’t stop along the way because a wet freeway invariably makes for bad traffic–and today was no exception. Instead, I went to the well for this image. It was taken during the same commute stop that I got the wispy fog shot of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Late summer at the Golden Gate

I was back on the commute today, and it was very warm during the ride home. The fog was trying to float into the Golden Gate, but the heat kept pushing it back. The push and pull of the elements made for a bizarre, wispy fog surrounding the bridge. It was one of those kind of shoots where I would focus and wait for a fog pattern that looked interesting before pressing the shutter button. This was the first shot I took. Sometimes it just happens that way.
