B&W grooving on a rainy day

It’s a very rainy Christmas day here in the SF Bay Area–meaning no outdoor photo opportunities. So it’s back to the 10,000 mile collection. Here’s two I think work well in black and white (à la my new Nik Silver Efex Pro Photoshop plugin):

This was the Saskatoon station in the early morning on our way east. Like I said before, not all Canadian train stations are palatial.

And a couple of thousand miles up the tracks, this is different view from our first room at the Hotel Belley in Quebec City (it was obviously rainy, but I was looking out from our cozy, dry hotel room).

Quebec City contrast

Still culling through the 10000 mile trip photos. Here are a couple more from Quebec City. The first shot caught my eye because of the striking contrast between the red and yellow. I cropped it a bit but otherwise it’s straight from the camera.

This was a “chartreuse cap” shot, but Maggie was far away and it was too dark in the shadows to emphasize the cap. In black and white, though, I like it.

Spotty Wi-Fi

After a 19 hour train ride (no Wi-Fi) we’re back to lovely Quebec City for four more days. We arrived in the city at 5:00 AM and hung out at the train station (Gare du Palais) for several hours waiting for the world to wake up. (Canadian train stations in the big cities are VERY nice!) The place we’re staying at for the next two days (Le Royal Champêtre) is very comfortable and I’m feeling lazy so call this is a quicky until we get back into the city proper on Thursday. Beautiful day today, and we’re supposed to get more of the same tomorrow. So far we haven’t gotten any uncomfortably cold weather. Global warming? Whatever it is it’s just fine by us Californians.
